[ Reptiles ] Open Question : My Ball Python is constantly hungry...?

My ball python is almost 3 feet in length and I feed him 2 full grown live mice a week. However, every time I even get near his aquarium he comes out from underneath his hide away and strikes the glass. I have only known him to do that when he is hungry, otherwise he usually just stays underneath his hide away even when I change his water bowl or move stuff around in the aquarium. When I give him the mice he attacks them and downs them in about a minute like he's starving to death. This has been ongoing for about a few months now, but has gotten increasingly worse just within the last 2 weeks I have fed him 5 mice. I have never known him to eat this much and he is still striking at me. A fellow ball python owner that I know advised me to start giving him rats instead. Am I doing something wrong? Could he be sick? Should I give him rats instead?
