  1. The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye (v. 1)
    from Image Comics.
Rick Grimes, a small town cop, gets shot, falls into a coma, and wakes up to the zombie apocalypse. After waking Rick discovers that dead people are trying to eat him and his wife and child are missing. Through luck, Rick stumbles upon some new neighbors and figures out what's going on--and how he's...

  2. Brightest Day #1
    from DC Comics.
Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi continue unreeling DC Comics' newest mysteries in Brightest Day #1. The once-dead heroes and villains are still trying to figure out their places in the world after being gone. Boston Brand (once Deadman) seems to be the central part of the puzzle, but I still don't know...

  3. Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the 5th Day (Apologia Science Young Explorers)
    from STL Distributors.
My kids enjoy how the author "talks" to them. It's written in a conversational style, which engages their attention.

  4. DK Readers: First Day at Gymnastics (Level 1: Beginning to Read)
    from DK CHILDREN.
This book was purchased for our 3 yr old who was learning about Gymnastics. It is an easy read, but for her we wanted to show a class of gymnasts, basic skills and interest. She will select to read it about every three weeks for so for a few nights still (she is almost 4).

  5. Ancient Blood: Day of Honor #1 (Star Trek The Next Generation)
    from Star Trek.
I have never been a fan of Klingons, or their claims to honor. I have never been a fan of subplots in holosuites. I have never been a fan of the writing of Diane Carey.

So imagine my surprise when I say, this is not only (by far) the best-written novel by Diane Carey that I have ever read (she...

  6. The First Day of School (Ready-to-Read. Level 1)
    from Simon Spotlight.
I feel that the "Robin Hill School" Ready-to-read books are somewhat advanced despite being categorized as Level 1 books. According to the description at the back of the book, Level 1 is "starting to read - simple stories, increased vocabulary, and longer sentences". Well, my 5-year-old is reading...

  7. The 1,000 day battle
    from Gillingham Publications.

  8. A Day in a Life of a Police Officer (Level 1: Beginning to Read)
    from DK CHILDREN.
Great book for preschool kids interested in police officers. It explains a variety of police activities interesting for preschoolers or those starting to read. I love this whole series.

  9. Standing Firm in These Last Days: 1 And 2 Thessalonians (The New Inductive Study Series)
    from Harvest House Publishers.

  10. A Word a Day, Grades 1-3
    from Evan-Moor Educational Publishers.
Used this product last year with my class and the kids really loved learning the words and using them in class.

  11. Out of Captivity: Surviving 1,967 Days in the Colombian Jungle
    from Harper Paperbacks.
Out of Captivity was a fascinating book about three regular, good guys who find themselves in a nightmare situation. The description of their time held captive my marxist thugs in the Colombia jungle makes it hard to put this awesome book down. Not only is it about this horrendous experience, but...

  12. Judy Moody: Around the World in 8 1/2 Days (Book #7)
    from Candlewick.
I purchased the set of Judy Moody (books 1-6) for my six year old Granddaughter. She is an an avid reader and simply loved these books;as soon as she had finished this set of books she was asking if there were more books in the series. She related well to Judy'feelings, escapades and experiences and...

  13. Earth Day (Ready-to-Read. Level 1)
    from Aladdin.
My son loves all of the Robin Hill School book series. Great topic as recycling, reducing waste and giving back to our planet are a big thing in his 1st grade class right now. A good portion of his past midterms were on recyclying and reducing waste :)

  14. Fancy Nancy: Pajama Day (I Can Read Book 1)
    from HarperCollins.
My granddaughter just loved this book, we read it several times in one night a sure sign it is a big hit. She never gets tired of it.

  15. One Fine Day, Vol. 1
    from Yen Press.
A cat left out in the rain is told by a dog and mouse to follow them. The cat complies and the three of them end up at a house belonging to a bespectacled man named No-ah, who welcomes the cat in as part of the family.
One Fine Day is rated "All Ages" and really feels like a children's read. It...

  16. Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School (I Can Read Book 1)
    from HarperCollins.
As anyone who follows my reviews knows, I check out every Fancy Nancy title because I have a daughter named Nancy who loves them. As she is just learning to read, these "I Can Read!" titles are particularly good. On the other hand, the titles in this series also vary more in quality than the other...

  17. X-Day, Book 1
    from TokyoPop.
X-Day is a wonderful story. The art is mediocre, but the characters are likable, the situations are real, and the feeling is natural (as in nothing in the manga seems completely unrealistic). It's a darker manga, with still a light air when the characters interact with each other. The story follows...

  18. Animals Day and Night, Level 1 Extreme Reader (Extreme Readers)
    from Brighter Child.
I am a first grade teacher always looking for interesting books to help encourage my children to read. Well, this book was a success! They loved the pictures and were able to read the text without too much difficulty. It was predictable text and that made it fun for even the lower readers because...

  19. Stock Options: Work 1/2 Hour A Day
    from Aardvark Global Publishing.

  20. Bloodsucker Tales, Volume 1 (30 Days of Night, Book 4) (v. 1)
    from IDW Publishing.
2 stars granted to the talented artists who gave their all to provide us another beautiful chapter of 30 Days of Night. Ben Templesmith and Kody Chamberlain are now at the top of my favorite artists list.
Two very talented writers shamed themselves when developing a concept for this...
